New31DC: Day 8 - Duochrome, Flakie, or Holo

Hello friends!  To start the second week of the New 31 DC we have Duochrome, Flakie, or Holo day!  I chose to do flakies for mine, because I so desperately needed these Finger Paints flakies when they came out and they are still sitting untried.  So I decided it was time to test these things out!

This post is going to be a bit photo heavy, so be prepared for that...

Since I didn't want to just do any old flakie mani, I tried to come up with something more unique.  I actually used all 5 flakies from Finger Paints (Motley, Flashy, Flecked, Twisted, and Asylum) on each nail, and did the braid technique so I would have all kinds of combos in the overlap areas.  I started with a different color on each nail so they would all be slight variations.

I started these off with one coat of Cult Nails Nevermore, a lovely one coat black.

Can you guys guess what comes next?  Of course it is matte top coat!

I added two coats of Essie Matte About You, the second coat wasn't so necessary but I added it to get a few bits that were still glossy near my cuticles.

I was kind of annoyed though because there are these little white bits on a couple nails.  I think they are little dried bits of the top coat that fell off the top of the brush while I was applying it.  I'm definitely going to be cleaning the edges of my bottle's neck to attempt to prevent this in the future.

So what are your favorite finish... duochrome, flakie, or holo?

This is gorgeous! My bottle of Matte About You left white spots too! It was after I accidentally left the lid unscrewed for a few days (it was sitting in the bottle but wasn't on at all) and third of it evaporated away. It was a bit thick but still worked so I didn't bother thinning it, but then I kept on getting the white spots so I added some nail polish thinner and they disappeared!

Oh my! I remember when these came out. It was when I had just started getting into nails and Collette of My Simple Little Pleasures posted about them. I knew I had to have them, but wasn't sure how I would make that happens seeing as how the closes Sallys is 150 miles away. Flash forward 6 months and they are htf! :-( I was so upset. I would check every blog sale but always missed the only one I was willing to pay extra for, Twisted. After *several* failed attempts I finally got one through one of the Facebook groups I'm in. I was literally jumping up and down when I got ot!
