Milani Key West with Comparisons

 Milani Key West
(direct sunlight)

Hi everyone!! If you follow me on Facebook you may already know this, but I am super excited to tell you all that you can now find my blog at smashleysparkles.com!  I also have another exciting announcement coming soon, so keep an eye out for that...

Today I've got swatches of Milani Key West for you, as well as my first comparison post! I saw this polish on Let Them Have Polish, and fell in love.  I also like the name, since I lived in the Keys for several years and they hold a special place in my heart.  This color is a gorgeous glowy teal foil.  Once I got it home, I realized it was VERY similar to my Color Club Metamorphosis... and thus this comparison post was born! :)

First a few swatches of just Key West on its own.  (All swatches are 2 coats without top coat.)

(shade)

Next the comparison photos!  I have the Color Club on my index and ring fingers, and Key West on my middle and pinky.  They are not EXACT dupes, but they are fairly close, especially in the sun.  Indoors and in the shade you can see the difference in finishes more (glass fleck vs foil).  Also, Metamorphosis has that hint of a pink duo-chrome to it.

Also, just for fun I added a comparison with China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise.  I knew this wasn't a dupe, but I just wanted to show you another teal next to these.  TUT is a neon, so it dries to a semi-matte finish.  Again, these swatches are 2 coats, with no top coat.

Thanks for looking, what do you think of these polishes?

Also, is there anything you would like to see more of on my blog?  Such as swatches, reviews, or comparisons?

Water Marble Wednesday: China Glaze On Fire!

China Glaze Riveting, Velvet Bow, and Liquid Leather
(Flash)

I am back again, along with my girl Danielle from Polish. Glitter. Rock & Roll!, for our weekly water marble!  This week Danielle chose for us to do a flame pattern inspired by  at My Simple Little Pleasures.

What better to use for this than a gorgeous polish that has been calling my name from my pile of untrieds... China Glaze Riveting!  And riveting this polish is!!!  It truly has the most beautiful glow to it.

I prepped my nails with my base coat, and one coat of Riveting.  I built my bulls-eye with China Glaze RivetingChina Glaze Velvet Bow, and China Glaze Liquid Leather.

My thumb was my favorite finger, I think it really looks like a flame licking up towards the top of my nail!  (Please excuse the denting!)

The last picture is blurred, but shows the fabulous sparkly glow of Riveting really well!

How do you feel about all the flame nails that people have been doing since the Hunger Games movie?  I have seen some really awesome ones personally!

Thanks for looking! :)

Nail-Venturous Lacquer Hurricane Season

Nail-Venturous Lacquer Hurricane Season
(light box)

Helloooooo!!  Today I have another Nail-Venturous Lacquer to show you!  This one is called Hurricane Season, and is part of Amy's Louisiana Southern Hospitality Collection.  It is a gorgeous grayed-blue shimmer base, with small light blue and silver glitters throughout.  This definitely looks like foreboding gray storm clouds... the really dark kind that have a hint of blue to them.

This polish applied like a dream, and was opaque in 2 coats.  I added a 3rd for a bit more depth though.

I also took some photos of this beauty mattified for you!! I love how it looks matte... I think it looks like denim.  So cool!

Finally, I want to show you my nail wheel swatches over different bases.

1. 1 coat of Hurricane Season over 2 coat of China Glaze Concrete Catwalk
2. 1 coat of Hurricane Season over 2 coats of Zoya Dove
3. 1 coat of Hurricane Season over 2 coat of Essie Smooth Sailing (kind of an ironic pairing, huh?!)
4. 1 coat of Hurricane Season over 2 coats of China Glaze Sea Spray
5. 3 coats of Hurricane Season, no base

Amy did not offer this for sale in her Etsy shop, but is considering adding it... Is this something you all would like to see her carry?

Water Marble Wednesday: Inspired by Fashion!

ChG Aquadelic, ChG Electric Beat, OPI Roadhouse Blues, SH Insta-Dri Lickety-Split Lime
(direct sunlight)

Hi hi!!  Here is this week's WMW!  I saw a scarf at Target the other day that I just loved the colors of, and I was inspired to use them for a water marble.  I didn't get as much contrast as I wanted between the light blue and the light turquoise though, oh well!  I tried to do a sideways chevron pattern for these, but the pattern was too large and didn't translate onto my nail quite as I had hoped.  I also had some issues with bubbling... I dipped 2 fingers at a time for this, so I wonder if that had to do with it.  It was my first shot at dipping multiple fingers and I may have been a bit overzealous with the speed!

The colors I used were China Glaze Aquadelic, China Glaze Electric Beat, OPI Roadhouse Blues, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lickety-Split Lime.  These were over 1 coat of Finger Paints Papier Mache.

Don't forget to see what my pal Danielle did today over at Polish. Glitter. Rock & Roll!

Nail-Venturous Lacquer Floam!

Nail-Venturous Lacquer Floam

Hi Guys!  Today I'm going to share some swatches of everyone's favorite Nail-Venturous Lacquer, the much sought-after FLOAM!!  I know you have all probably seen this polish already so I won't blab too much about it.  For these pictures I layered 3 coats of Floam over China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise.  The glitters in this are tiny, so I didn't realize until I edited my macro shots that there are actually and mix of square and hex pieces in this... cool!!  Thanks Amy for making these beautiful polishes and sharing with us!!

Amy's blog:
Amy has been selling her polishes on Etsy but does not have any available at the moment, I believe she is restocking in the next few weeks.  Be sure to check her blog and Facebook page for updates!

Water Marble Wednesday: Neon Flowers with Color Club Take Wing Collection

(direct sunlight)

Hello everyone!!  It is here again, Water Marble Wednesday!  This time my partner in crime, Danielle from Polish. Glitter. Rock & Roll! chose our theme for the week... summer-y neon flowers.  I have to tell you guys, I think this is by far the best nail art I have done yet.  I am SO happy with how this turned out.

I prepped my nail with 1 coat of Orly Au Champagne, and built my bulls-eye with Color Club Wing Fling, Sparkle and Soar, Daisy Does It, Fly With Me, and Metamorphosis, in that order.  It was essentially rainbow order.

Enough with the talk, on to the nail porn!!

Color Club Take Wing Collection Swatches

Color Club Take Wing Collection

Hi Guys!  Today I want to share some swatches with you of the majority of the new Color Club Take Wing Summer 2012 collection.  This collection includes (left to right in the promo picture):

Wing Fling:  Red/Pink Shimmer
Sparkle and Soar: Orange Shimmer
Sky High: Blue Shimmer
Metamorphosis: Turquoise Shimmer
Fly With Me: Lime Green Shimmer
Daisy Does It: Yellow Shimmer

I found these when I went polish shopping with my friend Danielle from Polish.Glitter. Rock & Roll! a couple weeks ago, and I just had to have them.  The only one that I didn't purchase was the blue one, Sky High.  I didn't get it because I thought I probably had something similar already, but after using the rest of these I kind of wish I had just gotten the complete collection, and I may pick up the blue one if I see it again.

The press release calls these "shimmers" but I think that the finish is more of a glass fleck, which I LOVE.  Some of them also have a slight duo-chrome, although I found it impossible to capture on camera.  All swatches are 3 coats, except Wing Fling, which is only 2.  No top coat on any of them.

Color Club Sparkle and Soar:  I really love this color for summer.  It is a nice bright orange, with a gold fleck in it.  These all have a bit of sheerness to them even after 3 coats the flash photos show some VNL, but that wasn't as noticeable in person.  This looks to be similar to China Glaze Orange Marmalade.

Color Club Wing Fling: This is one that has a bit of a duo-chrome to it.  The shimmer flashes purple in some lighting.  This is a nice polish, a little more opaque than the others, and only required 2 coats. I don't think it is terribly unique though.  I don't own China Glaze 108 Degrees, but this looks like a dupe of that to me.

Color Club Daisy Does It:  This one also has a duo-chrome, in the right lighting.  The shimmer flashed green when I tilted my hand, and of course I could not for the life of me capture that with my camera.  This is a very golden yellow, which may make it a little more wearable for some people.

Color Club Fly With Me:  I LOVE THIS POLISH!!  What a great spring-y grassy green.  I don't have any glass fleck green polishes, and this is a great addition to my collection.  It has a bit of a gold shimmer in it as well.

 Fly With Me (flash)

Color Club Metamorphosis:  Another with some duo-chrome to it.  This one has a bit of pink/violet flash in it.  I also didn't have anything like this in my collection yet, but this reminds me a little of China Glaze Watermelon Rind.

Are you going to get any colors from this collection?  Also, keep a look out for tomorrow's water marble that I did with all these colors!

Easter Egg Sequins

 China Glaze Gaga For Green

Hi everyone!  Here is a quick post of some Easter nails I did the other night.  I used a base color of 2 coats of China Glaze Gaga For Green, which I am sooo glad I got because I just love the way this applies.  It is so smooth and shiny and self leveling, it is one of the easiest polishes to work with out of my whole collection.

Then I stuck on a few of these sequins, which made me think of Easter eggs as soon as I bought them a few months ago.  On my ring finger I used 2 thick layers of top coat, which made the color bleed off the sequins a bit and bubbled, so I skipped it on my other nails.

This mani is not one of my favorites, but I hope you all like it anyway!

New Weekly Feature! Water Marble Wednesday

Zoya Pippa, OPI Planks A Lot, OPI Mermaid's Tears

Hello!!  I am so excited to present my first post in a new weekly feature, Water Marble Wednesday.  While I was participating in the Girly-Girl Challenge, I was lucky enough to make a great new friend, Danielle from Polish. Glitter. Rock & Roll!  She lives in Houston as well and we got together last week for Bahn Mi sammies and some polish shopping at the nail supplies in Chinatown, which was so much fun!  I saw that she had this weekly feature on her blog and asked her if she would let me join in on the fun.

This week our theme is Spring/Easter colors!

I had some trouble with this because in my mind it was necessary to have a yellow in my design, and my only yellow creme polish is Zoya Pippa, which just did not cooperate too well with the water.  It didn't want to spread properly, and made this all very difficult!  I will have to add another yellow to my collection to use with my water marbles in the future.

The other colors I used were OPI Mermaid's Tears, and OPI Planks A Lot.

I wanted to do a swirl pattern, which is so difficult for me.  I feel like every time I attempt this the colors get too muddied together for my liking.  I guess I will have to go watch more videos from Colette at My Simple Little Pleasures.  I'm pretty sure she is everyone's water marbling idol, me included!!
