Real Life has received critical acclaim and is considered a pioneering post-punk record. It has also been described as new wave and art rock.

Real Life are a Melbourne-based Australian new wave/synthpop band that achieved international chart success with their 1983 singles "Send Me an Angel" and "Catch Me I'm Falling". Both singles appeared on the band's debut album, Heartland, released in 1983. The band originally consisted of David Sterry (lead vocals and guitar), Richard Zatorski (violin and keyboard), Alan Johnson (bass) and Danny Simcic (drums).

Victoria Wood CBE (born 19 May 1953) is an English comedienne, actress, singer-songwriter, screenwriter and director. Wood has written and starred in sketches, plays, films and sitcoms, and her live comedy act is interspersed with her own compositions, which she accompanies on piano. Wood also composed and performed the theme music for her award winning BBC sitcom Dinnerladies. Much of her humour is grounded in everyday life, and includes references to popular British media and brand names of quintessentially British products.
Victoria Wood was the youngest child of Stanley Wood, an insurance salesman, who also wrote songs for his company's Christmas parties, and Nellie Wood (née Mape) Wood was born in Prestwich and brought up in Bury - both then in Lancashire.
